Northern Lights
Painting at the Public Library, Fern Lea Avenue, Barnoldswick, BB18 5DW
25/02/2018
Bookings are now being taken for Februarys Monday afternoon Painting classes in Barnoldswick Library. Classes take place from 1-3pm in the upstairs meeting room. This month the series of classes starts on the 5th February with an easy watercolour painting featuring Ingleborough at night. The following week the class looks at how to start a watercolour commission using a view over the river Wharfe at Grassington as the subject and will feature a pencil sketch and a graphite and wash of the scene.
on the 19th February the same scene of the Wharfe is used again but to complete a finished watercolour. The two weeks looking at the Wharfe compliment one another but are also stand alone sessions. The monthe rounds up on the 26th February with a mixed media painting of the Northern Lights over Lapland.

Full programs are available at the library.

The cost is £10 per half day session and includes all materials needed to complete the painting - just turn up on the day, sit down and paint. All sessions are independent of one another. To book just contact Malcolm on 07776036674 or just turn up as there is usually an extra place set. See www.malcolmmbullock.co.uk/articles for further information. 5th Feb - Mon 1-3
A Night-time Scene Featuring Ingleborough in Watercolour
An easy start to the year with something a bit different - A night-time scene

12th Feb - Mon 1-3
Across the Wharfe at Grassington Part 1 in Graphite & Graphite and Wash
This is a sort of a request and stems from someone wanting to paint a specific scene so we are going to look at how to start to paint a commission from supplied photographs. This session features how to get started and prepare a graphite and wash study.

19th Feb - Mon 1-3
Across the Wharfe at Grassington Part 2 in Watercolour
Here we turn our sketches and colour notes from part 1 into a finished watercolour. We will be assessing and making modifications to our notes as necessary.

NOTE—it is not essential to have done part 1 to do part 2

26th Feb - Mon 1-3
The Northern Lights in Watercolour & Gouache.
This also started life as a commission for someone who had been to Lapland—it worked out quite well (was loved by the clients) so we will give it a whirl in class. It uses salt too.

The sessions feature a paint- along where the participants will start and finish the painting within the session. The techniques used to produce the painting will follow a step by step approach. This method of teaching allows the individual to quickly develop confidence in using the paints. Skills are also built up through the explanation of the various techniques used in painting the scene as well as the theory, such as composition and colour theory, that goes with it. The development of a personal style of painting is encouraged through individual assessment at various stages of the painting. No one paints exactly the same, we are all unique.

Booking is preferable as course numbers will be kept reasonably small to ensure individual attention. I do usually set an extra place or two so it is also possible to turn up on the day.

Booking can be taken at the information counter at the library or call, text (07776036674) or contact me via the "contact me" page of this website and I will pass the booking on to the library.
